Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has used his line item veto to eliminate all $191 million of funding for the Senior Citizens Property Tax Assistance Program from the California state budget. This was the governor's single biggest line item veto.

The Governor did not seek any public input before making this drastic and unexpected cut. The line-item veto takes $150 million from low-income renters and $41 million from low-income homeowners.

HCD Posting Draft-Action Plan for the New Neighborhood Stabilization Program

Housing California is reporting that on Friday, November 14, 2008, the Department of Housing and Community Development will post its draft action plan for the new Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Under deadlines set by the federal government, interested parties have only 14 days to submit comments. See HCD's website for more information.

Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficient New Homes Have Been Extended

The federal tax credits for energy efficiency have been extended by the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. These tax credits can be used in addition to the financial incentives available from SCE's California New Homes Program (CANHP).

NLHA Announces Scholarship Program for Assisted Housing Residents

The National Leased Housing Association (NLHA) Education Fund is seeking applications for its three scholarship programs.

This 501(c)(3) non profit organization was formed in 2006 as part of NLHA's ongoing effort to continue to seek ways to improve the lives of individuals and families who reside in federally assisted housing or receive federal housing assistance.

NLHA is a 500 membership organization dedicated to the provision and preservation of federally assisted rental housing for low income families.

Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) Issues NOFA for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF)

The Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) expects to receive Mayor and City Council authority to issue a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF).

On April 4, 2006, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved the Homeless Prevention Initiative which allocated $20 Million for the creation of an affordable housing revolving loan fund. The Los Angeles County Housing Innovation Fund, LLC, a joint venture betweenof the Low Income Investment Fund, Century Housing Corporation, and the Corporation for Supportive Housing will be administering the fund.

HUD's New FY2008 Income Limits Documentation System Now Online

This system provides complete documentation of the development of the FY 2008 Income Limits (ILs) for any area of the country selected by the user. After selecting the desired geography, the user is provided a page containing a summary of how the final FY 2008 ILs were updated and developed starting with the 2000 Census benchmark and including update factors from Bureau of Labor Statistics Data (BLS) and American Community Survey (ACS) data. The tables on the summary page include links to complete detail on how the data were developed.
